Keith Phillips is a solo piano music and keyboard performer from Atlanta, GA. Keith received #1 hit radio airplay in 1985 with Steven Rhett Shiver and now has evolved into a solo artist with Nightfall. He originally hails from Athens, GA. where for years he performed in cover bands in the genres of rhythm and blues, country, and acoustic rock. Classically trained, he is currently a piano teacher, composer, and author in the north Atlanta, GA area.
"Teaching piano and composing have become the two most treasured endeavors I have found," says Keith. "Sharing music with students and my music with others have been life long dreams that are a privilege to attempt. Authoring books on piano technique allow me to extend this teaching to advancing students and other teachers.
Notable "at large" consultants to the NightFall CD are New Age artist David Lanz of
the Narada Label and Steinway Artist Emile Pandolfi of Magic Music Productions. A notable "at large" consultant to the Daydreams CD is 2002's Randy Copus.
Keith is also grateful for the support he has received in the community and among Keith's new releases. NightFall, Keith's debut piano solo CD, was used in Spring 2003 as a fundraiser CD for the Atlanta Symphony's Maestro's Mart. Daydreams, ambient piano orchestrations, was used in Spring 2005 as a fundraiser CD for the Atlanta Symphony Maestro's Mart. Elegant gift shops in 18 states have taken on Keith's music and hopefully there are many more shops to partner with on upcoming trips.
Keith's creative musical journey began at age 14 as a relief from the rigorous practice schedule
he had in order to compete in classical music circles. Learning pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, and other composers gave Keith the inspiration and technical know†how to attempt his own music. His first composition was a love song sung by a contestant in a local Junior Miss Pageant.
The latter half of 2005 had Keith in his own Sleepy River Studio composing and arranging
Sanctuary, contemporary hymn orchestrations, an upbeat musical evolution from Daydreams
and bears the influences of Mannheim Steamroller, Enya, Yanni, and Steven Curtis
Chapman. The studio is named after the Chattahoochee River, a 540-mile river that flows through Atlanta on its way to the Gulf of Mexico. The river has historical significance for
Native American Indians and is a major water source for George, Alabama, and Florida. Keith draws inspiration from hiking on the river throughout the year.
